The Work

Steven Dexheimer writes non-fiction, short stories, and screenplays about ordinary people in extraordinary situations.

His work often begins in fracture and moves toward something quieter and harder won — grace, wonder, and the possibility of repair.

He is currently a contributing writer for North Plains Living Magazine.

He was recently chosen to join the Willamette Writers 2026 FilmLab Writer's Room.
Eight writers were selected by a panel of judges to participate in a two-day in-person writer’s room in Portland, Oregon. They will work with Grant Rosenberg, an experienced showrunner, producer, and screenwriter, to collaborate on a script which will be performed by SAG-AFTRA actors at the Willamette Writers Conference in August 2026.
The script will then move into production in 2027.
